| About Hybrid Kid |
|
San Francisco Bay Area indie rockers Hybrid Kid combine jangly guitar
riffs and noisy lo-fi indie rock with catchy pop choruses and melodies
a la Pavement, Built to Spill, and Tom Jones (the early stuff, before he sold out and did "What's New, Pussycat?"). Danny, the songwriter and leader of the band, moved to San Francisco from London a while back and after wading through various characters on Craigslist (stokers, winners, and other rubbish) he finally settled on Dan. Brian was a second-round draft pick from Philly, and James, our newest member, is another Craigslist find who just moved out here from South Carolina. Others sometimes call it South Khakilaki; he calls it Hell for Asians.
Some of the favorable press:
"The British San Francisco transplants of Hybrid Kid prove there's life in that Manchester mastodon yet by suturing likable pop rock of a shoegazer variety to a mod, almost Coldplay-like etherealness."
-San Francisco Bay Guardian
"Hybrid Kid's [recently released self-titled] EP is a surprisingly strong indie pop
release reminiscent of Sebadoh, Guided By Voices, and Cracker. These
four songs are engaging, infectious songs with fresh sounds and strong
melodies."
-Matt Shimmer at indieville.com (July 18-24, 2005)
"...no sooner than you have listened to 'Dropped' than you want to hit play again. And again. Equal measures US slacker indie and jangly pop thrills. More, more!"
-BBC Radio One Onemusic
